Access Statement

From April 2007 all providers of quality- assessed accommodation are required by VisitBritain to provide an Access Statement  - a clear and honest written description of current facilities and services offered.

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home-based two-bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of what we provide for our guests. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-Arrival

  • There is a bus stop in the middle of Bulford Village, about 250 metres from our front gate, with frequent buses to/from Salisbury
  • The closest train station is at Grateley, 15 minutes away by taxi, with trains to/from London/Waterloo and Salisbury. Salisbury station is about 25 minutes away by taxi
  • There are several local taxi services and, if required, we can make a booking for you (taxi phone numbers are at the end of this page)
  • Our breakfast menu can be provided in large print by prior arrangement

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • The entrance to our property is designated by a large gate which should be kept closed at all times as we have livestock here
  • The parking area is close to the house and is marked by a ‘Parking’ sign. There is ample room for guests’ cars
  • The drive and pathway surfaces are level, flat and either tarmac or stone
  • We can assist guests with their luggage.

Main Entrance and Reception

  • The front door has one step 18cm high
  • The door is 91cm wide
  • The front door is always locked at night but there is a bell under the door canopy so that assistance can be summoned
  • There is an alternative entrance to our largest bedroom which has a level approach over grass from the driveway
  • On entry into our home there is a hallway with two steps down to the level of the breakfast room, and two steps up to the corridor leading to the bedrooms which are both on the ground floor
  • The flooring in the entrance is slate
  • There is no separate reception area.

Public Areas - Internal

  • All bedrooms and public rooms are on the ground floor, and each has one step up from the corridor between the bedrooms and the breakfast room
  • This corridor is at least 107cm wide, and is well lit
  • The flooring of the corridor is slate; elsewhere in the house it is fitted carpet.
  • The public WC is situated next to the front door.

Breakfast Room and Lounge

  • Breakfast is served in the breakfast room. There are two steps down to the level of the breakfast room from the corridor to the bedrooms
  • There is one large round table which seats six; chairs are without arms and can be moved as required
  • The menu can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
  • The lounge adjoins the breakfast room, linked via 12cm high steps.

Laundry

This is available for long-stay guests only.

Outside Facilities - Grounds and Gardens

  • We have an enclosed courtyard garden with flower beds and trees which is available for guests to sit in (table and chairs are provided)
  • There are extensive gardens with level or slightly sloping lawns between the house and the River Avon. There are three bridges over a stream which lead to the river, one of which has ramps on both sides. There are several benches in the garden for the use of guests.

Bedrooms

There are two bedrooms, both of which are on the ground floor:

Family bedroom (large double room)

  • There is one step up from the corridor to the entrance hall to this  bedroom; the step is 17cm high and the doorway is 111cm wide
  • There is an alternative entrance to this bedroom which has a level approach over grass, and a 5cm step through a doorway 79cm wide
  • The doorway into the bedroom is 73cm wide, and into the bathroom 74cm
  • This room has one double bed and either one or two single beds
  • The double bed and one of the single beds are 56cm high; the second single bed is 30cm high and is meant for children
  • Furniture, with the exception of the double bed, is moveable on request
  • There are a television and DVD/CD player, with remote controls
  • This room has its own fridge plus tea/coffee-making facilities
  • There are a sofa and an upright chair (with no arms)
  • There is an ensuite bathroom
  • Flooring is fitted carpet
  • There is good colour contrast of walls, floor and fittings.

Twin-bedded bedroom

  • There is one step up from the corridor to this bedroom, 17cm high
  • The doorway into the bedroom is 109cm wide, and 74cm wide into the bathroom
  • This room has two single beds, each 61cm high
  • Furniture is moveable on request
  • There are a television and DVD/CD player, with remote controls
  • This room has its own fridge plus tea/coffee-making facilities
  • There are two easy chairs and one upright chair (with no arms)
  • There is an ensuite bathroom
  • Flooring is fitted carpet
  • There is good colour contrast of walls, floor and fittings.

Family bedroom ensuite bathroom

  • The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment
  • Door width is 74cm, opening outwards
  • Bath edge is 53cm high
  • Basin is round-fronted and is 84cm high
  • Toilet is 44cm high
  • Flooring is cushion-backed plastic
  • There is good colour contrast of walls, floor and fittings.

Twin bedded bedroom ensuite bathroom

  • The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment
  • Door width is 74cm, opening inwards
  • Bath edge is 53cm high
  • Basin is flat-fronted, 84cm high, and is mounted on a vanity unit
  • Toilet is 44cm high
  • Flooring is cushion-backed plastic
  • There is good colour contrast of walls, floor and fittings.

Additional Information

  • No dogs are allowed as our chickens range freely throughout the grounds
  • Mobile phone reception is generally good
  • There are front and back doors to the property for use in evacuation; there is a key for each external door in a key-box close to each door. Each bedroom has evacuation instructions on the wall by the exit door
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the house.
